HEALTH CARE TIPS FOR WINTER

In winters you need to take proper care of your health to avoid the common winter illnesses. Take care of your health and stay fit during the winters with the following health care tips.

Winter is already in and we need to take some measures so that we are literally not left in the cold. On one hand you have the pleasing morning chill and on the other hand you have the nip in the air during the night. This calls for some warmth for your system and you need to take care that your health is in a state to enjoy the complete pleasures of the winters.

The chill and the hot winter delicacies make us prone to savour the delights without batting an eyelid as we feel lethargic. But then we also fall sick due to overeating, eating not the right foods and tremendous lack of body movements. Here are some tips that will help you stay fit and healthy during the winters without failing to soak in the pleasures that are exclusive to the season:

Check Your Diet
We tend to consume a lot of fried stuff that is high on calories during the winters. Since the nip in the air makes us desire for more and more piping hot fries, we tend to forget simultaneously that we are adding those extra calories and fat in our system. So the tip is to include lots of fibers during the winters. Winter months are aplenty with an assortment of fruits and vegetables. Make sure that you make them a part of your regular diet. A bowl of crunchy fruit and vegetable salad is not only tasty but it will also give you the desired nutrients and ensure that you do not take in those junks at whim.

Switch the Type of Potatoes
The normal potatoes that are available throughout the year is high in carbohydrate and they do not add much in terms of nutritional content. It is advisable to substitute them with the sweet potatoes that are readily available in the winters for their high fiber content.

Take in Low-Fat Dairy Products
Abstain from using milk creams, non-skimmed milk and cheese, and cottage cheese produced from non-skimmed milk in your diet. Whether it is a salad dressing or for cooking, or consuming milk as it is, it is advisable to use the lowest fat dairy products during the winter. This will help you to keep your weight in check.

Seek Alternatives for Oil and Butter
Winters are when people enjoy baking cakes and doing a lot of barbecue. There is no harm in doing away with this custom. You can just twitch a bit here and there, and bake a healthy cake. Substitute the butter and oil with some applesauce and you will find that the cake tastes differently good!

Find Healthy Garnishing and Flavouring Alternatives
While eating healthy, there is no reason why you should eat non tasty and bland food. You can always enhance the taste and flavour of the food by adding ingredients that are healthy instead of butter and oil. Try out a variety of herbs for seasoning. They are readily available during the winters too.

Take Care of Your Skin
The winter wrecks a good deal of havoc on your skin. Make it a point that you moisturise well and use body massage oil in combination with your regular moisturising lotion. Avoid the hot showers as they tend to rob the natural moisture of the skin, making it further dry.

Finally, enjoy the chill but take care that you are following the precautionary measures along with it. Some simple facts can be effectively taken care of, like when you are outdoors and your gloves and coat gets wet with the fog or snowfall, make sure that you remove them when you get indoors. Do not keep them on thinking that they are still helping you keep warm. Often we find people suffering from skin issues due to bacterial and fungal growth due to dampness and improper hygiene during the winters. So never skip your regular bath, however chilly it is outside!
